Central baseball advances to AHSAA 7A championship series
PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - For the third straight season, Central High School baseball will play for a state championship. Central swept Auburn High (11-6, 10-1) on Wednesday night and will play the winner of the Bob Jones/James Clemens series in the AHSAA 7A finals. The Red Devils last won a state championship in 2022.
Showers and Storms on the Horizon
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The day started off with clouds, but sunshine returned in the afternoon warming temperatures into the mid-80s to near 90 degrees for a lot of locations. Overnight expect mostly clear to partly cloudy skies on another mild and muggy night. Temperatures waking up Wednesday morning range from the upper-60 to low-70s before warming to the upper-80s to low-90s in the afternoon. Wednesday will be the warmest day this work week before cooler temperatures return to the Valley this weekend. Thursday is an ALERT Day due to the potential for some strong to severe storms. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but rather expect isolated pockets of damaging winds and hail. We will continue to keep you updated as the front makes its way to the Valley. Thursday, expect two rounds of showers and storms, the first coming Thursday afternoon and the second round coming Thursday overnight to early Friday. Friday starts with showers and storms, with drier conditions returning during the second part of the day. This upcoming Mother’s Day weekend expect dry conditions with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper-70s to low-80s.

Lee County Board of Education to Change Where Smiths Station Freshman Attend School Next Fall
SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) - “I just don’t want my son coming home saying he’s being picked on and afraid to go in the lunch room,” said Nehemiah Mitchell. For 13 years, freshmen in Smiths Station had their classes held in the Freshman Center, a building designated for 9th graders as they begin the transition from Middle to High School.
