COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) Georgia Public Service Commissioner (PSC) Tim Echols was the guest speaker on Wednesday, May 8 at a downtown Columbus civic club.

Echols is one of five elected PSC commissioners across the state.

The PSC regulates the rates charged and the services provided by most intrastate, investor-owned telecommunications, natural gas and electric utilities operating in Georgia.

The elections of commissioners was cancelled this year by an ongoing legal fight. That issue has been resolved in part by the General Assembly.

They will be back on the Georgia ballot beginning next year.

Echols spoke with WRBL on the upcoming ballot for 2025.

“The Secretary of State has canceled the PSC election for this year,” said Echols. “The legislature passed House Bill 1312 and we will be on the ballot next year on the May primary. I’ll have a new primary, so will Fetch Johnson. The other commissioners have been given two additional years  to put us all back on the right cycle.”
