Historic Washington State Park’s Red River Heritage Symposium July 27
Historic Washington State Park will host the 18th Annual Red River Heritage Symposium on Saturday, July 27, from 1-5 p.m. at the park, 100 SW Morrison St., Washington. This year’s theme is “Washington, Arkansas: 200 Years of History” and will focus on the impact of the community of Washington, Ark., since its founding in 1824, on the Great Bend Region of the Red River.
Chamber Coffee Hosted by Watermelon Royalty
The Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Community Coffee was hosted by the Watermelon Royalty on Wednesday July 24th. The 18th Annual Miss & Mister Watermelon Festival Pageant is set for Tuesday, August 6th at 6:00 pm at Klipsch Auditorium in City Hall in Hope. This exciting event is open to boys and girls from 0 to 18 years of age, with no admission fee for the public. All registration forms and fees must be postmarked by July 19th Additionally, the Hope Watermelon Beautiful Baby Contest is a charming photo contest for boys and girls aged 0-3. Photos and results will be displayed at the 48th Annual Watermelon Festival from August 8-10. Registration forms for both events are available at the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, Rae Tay’s, Tickled Pink Boutique, and The Little Things Children’s Boutique. Old Washington Farmer’s Market Watermelon Weigh-Off August 31st
If you are growing watermelons save one for Labor Day weekend!!! On Saturday, August 31, the Old Washington Farmer’s Market will host an official watermelon weigh-off site for the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth in Washington, Arkansas. The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth provides official venues for growers to weigh several varieties of fruit and vegetables, including watermelons, across the country. They then give prizes for the largest weighed item of its type across the country.
