    COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A patient at the University of Missouri Psychiatric Center was charged with first-degree assault after he allegedly tried to smother a sleeping patient with a pillow.

Cody Hall was charged on Friday and the probable cause statement claims that the assault occurred on Saturday, April 27. A court date has not been scheduled and a no-bond warrant was ordered on Friday. The probable cause statement says Hall had not been moved from the hospital.

According to the probable cause statement, University police were called to the hospital just before 1 a.m. on April 27. Hospital staff allegedly told law enforcement that Hall tried to smother another patient in their sleep. Hall allegedly told law enforcement that the victim had been saying things, but he denied trying to smother the victim, the statement says.

The victim allegedly told law enforcement that he woke up while Hall was trying to smother him, but was able to push Hall off, the statement says. Hall then allegedly pushed the victim into a wall and the victim hit his head, the statement says.

Hospital staff allegedly told law enforcement that they heard a struggle coming from a room and found Hall allegedly blocking the victim from leaving the room, the statement says.
