COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The mother of the teenager killed April 11 on Premier Lane is grieving her loss.

The Columbia Police Department says they are still looking for two juvenile suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of Derek Silvey, 18. Police say they are a threat to the public.

Michele Allison wants people to cherish the time they have with their loved ones after her son, Derek Silvey was killed.

"If you know something, say something. If if you don't, you don't. But most importantly, to anybody, hold your kids because you never know that last moment," Allison said.'

CPD Assistant Chief Lance Bolinger told ABC 17 News on Thursday that because the suspects are juveniles, he can't release much information by law. However, he said CPD tried to get permission from the court to release more information.

"We actually went to the court to try to get authorization to release identifying information, because we do believe that they are danger to the public," Bolinger said. "However, that motion was denied. So at this point, we can't release any of that identifying information on them."

Bolinger said that based on information gathered by law enforcement, there are people in the community who know the location of the suspects. He said CPD understands there's a risk involved with coming forward, so he suggested contacting Crime Stoppers.

"Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. We're not going to put their (possible callers') name into a report. We actually don't even see their name on our end of it," Bolinger said. "It goes through a separate, reporting system for them to get paid and reimbursed for that."

Silvey was pronounced dead at the scene. A neighbor told ABC 17 News on Friday that she saw Silvey on the ground and attempted CPR until police arrived. A CPD spokesman said at the scene on the night of the shooting that first responders rendered aid to Silvey when they arrived.

"I swear to God I don't wish this on nobody. And I may have said a lot because I've been angry and I hurt, but not even on the mother of these two boys, do I wish this. I don't wish none of this," Allison said.

If you know anything about the two suspects in this case, you are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS.
