Traffic incident with loaded school bus causes minor stir, no injuries in Petal
PETAL, Miss. (WDAM) - A minor traffic incident involving a loaded school bus caused concern for drivers passing by, but the Petal police said everything was alright. The incident happened around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 42 (Evelyn Gandy Parkway) and Herrington Road.
Laurel garden club gets grants for park improvements
LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - Grant money is helping parks in Jones County with beautification efforts. The Northwood Garden Club in Laurel is making several improvements. President Lee Caver says nearly 75 years ago, the current oak trees at the park were planted, and since then, the place has become something better.
New mural completed at public library in Sumrall
SUMRALL, Miss. (WDAM) - The newest project funded by Sumrall Main Street’s Facade Grant Program has finally been completed. Painted on the side of the L.R. Boyer Memorial Library, the new mural features hundreds of books. Each book was painted by various members of the community of all ages.

Law enforcement officers and first responders are currently working a three-vehicle accident on Highway 13 south outside of Prentiss. MDOT: Downed power line causes multiple signal outages on US-98
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - A downed power line knocked out power to multiple traffic signals along U.S. 98 in West Hattiesburg. The Mississippi Department of Transportation reported the outage affected signals and traffic cameras between the intersections of Hegewood Drive and MS Hwy 589. They said that law enforcement was on the scene directing traffic, and crewmen from MS Power repaired the line.
