UVM graduation to carry on without commencement speaker
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The University of Vermont is preparing for more than 3,000 to walk across the stage this weekend to receive their diplomas. Graduating seniors could be seen across campus Friday wearing their caps and gowns for photos, and crews set up chairs and tents on the green. According to UVM, more than 2,600 bachelor’s degrees and nearly 500 master’s degrees will be handed out this weekend. Students we spoke to say the graduation comes after a tumultuous four years. Despite starting their college experience online during the pandemic, they say they’re grateful for their time here in the Green Mountains.

Causeway Bike Ferry prepares to kick off new season
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Another sign of the season, Local Motion’s bike ferry is returning to service Memorial Day Weekend. The ferry runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through mid-June, and then will expand to seven days a week through Labor Day. The service is by donation and you don’t need to make a reservation.

Area orchards look to rebound from killing frost of ‘23
WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Fruit growers around the region are looking for a rebound this summer following the hard frost that wiped out their crops exactly one year ago. The killing frost May 17-18 destroyed fruit blossoms and damaged vines throughout the state, eventually earning a disaster designation by the USDA. Some fruit growers in the Upper Valley told WCAX News they expected to lose 95% of their crops.
