Residents are worried about potential low water levels in the lake this summer season. “The lake is our summer pillar of recreation and tourism opportunities,” Bonner County resident David Phillips said. “There’s not going to be any water here.”

COPELAND — Three great horned owls were recovered at Elk Mountain Farms after having trouble staying in a rickety nest. The young owlets were placed with a foster mother owl at the Birds of Prey Northwest facility in St. Maries.The group’s mission is to educate the public about birds of prey, through on-site and virtual live raptor presentations and other expanding outreach as well as provide medical treatment to injured, sick, and orphaned wild raptors before returning them to the wild.

OROFINO - On May 9, 2024, eight students from Orofino High School’s Introduction to Fisheries, Wildlife, and Forestry (FWF) class participated in the 41st Idaho State Forestry Contest in Farragut State Park (Athol, ID). There were nearly 200 student participants from all over the state. The annual contest assesses students' forestry skills and resource management knowledge. Each student must complete nine assessments on the following topics: Map Reading, Tree Measurement, Noxious Weeds, Log Scaling, Native Tree/Shrub Identification, Tree Health, Soil and Water Quality, Compass and Pacing, and Silviculture.
