Marvin Fitzsimmons of Clifton, Colorado, went to his heavenly home on December 22, 2023 due to a short battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Carolyn Fitzsimmons. He is survived by his wife Tillie of 22 years, his sons Jason Fitzsimmons of Collbran, Nic Fitzsimmons (Pamela) of Denver, and daughter Cara McArtor (Brian) of Clayton, NC, sisters Marcee Oehlkers (Mike) of Castle Rock, Marlys LaForest (Paul) Castle Rock, and Margie Masoner (David) of Highlands Ranch. Step children Christopher McClain (Julie) of San Antonio, TX, and Chrystal Wood (Shaun) of Parachute, CO, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family has decided to hold a celebration of life on June 8, 2024 at 10am, at Brown’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 904 N. 7 th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501. Man attempts to steal Rifle Police Department patrol vehicle
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Earlier this week, a suspect broke into the Rifle Police Department (RPD) and attempted to steal a patrol vehicle, authorities reported. After noticing headlights in the RPD parking lot, a RPD officer discovered an adult male driving a RPD patrol vehicle. The driver, identified as Manuel Alberto Cabrera, was arrested without resistance. Further investigation revealed that Cabrera broke into the RPD, stole a radio and keys, and attempted to take a patrol vehicle.

Gates of Morrow Point Dam open for the weekend, potentially longer
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - All four gates are open on the Morrow Point Dam in Montrose County for the first time since 2017. The water release simulates spring runoff to protect the endangered Colorado pikeminnow and razorback sucker in the lower Gunnison River, along with three other endangered fish species in the Colorado River. The flow from the 15 foot wide gates are 468 feet above ground and can be seen at Morrow Point Dam from U.S. 50 in Cimarron.

Spruce Creek Fire grows overnight
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT ) - Fire officials report that the Spruce Creek fire to has grown more than 1600 acres in size. The wildfire, burning on Haycamp Mesa 11 miles northeast of Dolores, started May 14 and initially consumed just 10 acres of Ponderosa pine forest. As of Thursday May 23rd, the fire, originally sparked by lighting, has covered 4,962 acres total. Over 179 firefighters and public safety officials have responded to the fire, which includes two hotshot crews and multiple fire engines from Wyoming and Montana.
