Two Ohio shopping centers, including Belden Village Mall, are suing Melt Bar and Grilled and its owner.

Lawyers for Belden Village Mall and Easton Town Center in Columbus have filed lawsuits seeking unpaid rent and payment for violations of lease agreements against the now-defunct restaurants and their owner, Matt Fish of the Cleveland area.

Over the past two years, Melt Bar and Grilled has closed six locations throughout Ohio.

The lawsuits allege the Cleveland-based grilled cheese restaurant failed to pay rent and violated lease agreements such as payment of real estate taxes and water fees.

Belden Mall LLC filed suit in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court claiming it is owed $73,243.63 for the months of December 2022 through April 2023. The suit cites unpaid bills plus interest, costs and attorneys’ fees.

A summary judgment response by the defendant was due Tuesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. The Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts said Wednesday morning that nothing had been filed. Mark S. Fusco of the law firm Walter & Haverfield, which represents Fish, declined to comment on the pending litigation.
