The Cleveland Guardians will induct one of the franchise’s best pitchers into their team’s Hall of Fame.

Later this season, the Guardians will enshrine CC Sabathia, who pitched for the team from 2001 to 2008.

Guardians reporter Zack Meisel reported the news of Sabathia’s induction on X, the website formerly known as twitter. Meisel said, “CC Sabathia, who could be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in the very near future, will be inducted into the Guardians Hall of Fame on Aug. 3.”

Sabathia earned American League All-Star honors three times as a member of the Guardians. He earned the AL Cy Young Award in 2007 after a brilliant season on the mound.

The Guardians famously traded Sabathia to Milwaukee at the 2008 trade deadline. Sabathia had one of the greatest second halves in MLB history en route to a postseason appearance. He then finished his career with the New York Yankees, where he won a World Series during the 2009 MLB season.

Sabathia is one of the most beloved players of his era and one of the best, so it’s not surprising to see him earn these honors. While Sabathia won a title with the Yankees, his run with the Guardians still deserves plenty of recognition.

That weekend will be a big weekend in Northeast Ohio. WWE SummerSlam will emanate from Cleveland while the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony goes down in Canton.
