    Pilot airlifted after crashing small plane in northern Minnesota

    A pilot has been airlifted to a hospital after crashing a small plane in northern Minnesota early Monday.

    Clearbrook-Gonvick Police Chief Ryan Solee said the crash happened at 1:40 a.m. in the City of Clearbrook, with responders arriving to the sene to find the pilot outside the crashed, single-engine aircraft.

    The pilot was airlifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Their condition has not been provided.

    "Preliminary investigation indicates that the pilot experienced mechanical failure," Chief Solee said. "This, in addition to poor weather conditions, is believed to be the main factor in the crash."

    The incident will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
