Algonac Art Fair gets green light
The Algonac City Council on July 16 approved a special event permit for the Algonac Art Fair. “The Algonac Art Fair Committee has submitted a special events permit for the 52nd annual Algonac Art Fair in Riverfront Park on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024,” Mayor Rocky Gillis said. “The permit application has been received and has been approved by administration. We are waiting for approval of the safety and security plan by the St. Clair County sheriff.”
Dogapalooza returning to Clay Township
Clay Township’s Dogapalooza event will return during the Aug. 1 Music in the Parks concert at Clay Township Park. At the event, which will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., people are invited to come out and celebrate their pets. Clay Township Recreation will welcome all dog-related organizations and businesses to join, and there will be dog-related freebies while supplies last.

Gratiot Avenue resurfacing project to begin in Casco Township
A portion of Gratiot Avenue in Casco Township will be reduced to one lane of traffic starting Monday for a resurfacing project. Construction is expected to be underway for 30 days on Gratiot Avenue from County Line Road to Division Road, on the border of Richmond. Work includes asphalt pavement removal, cold milling, concrete rubblizing, new aggregate base and repaving roadway with asphalt.
New Baltimore police station’s leaky roof to be replaced
New Baltimore officials are working to tackle aging, leaky roofs on city buildings, starting with the police department. City council members on July 22 approved a quote from Zimmer Roofing & Construction to replace the roof at the police station on Green Street at a cost of nearly $125,000. Additional roof replacement projects are also being discussed for city hall and the water department.
