After many discussions between Clarksville-Montgomery County residents, school board members and school administration, the next CMCSS elementary school finally has a name.

During the April 23 school board meeting, the CMCSS school board voted to name the 26th elementary school: Freedom Elementary School.

Talks of the name for the elementary school have included the word 'Freedom' since the name was brought in front of the Board by Chief Operations Officer Norm Brumblay in February.

Since then, name suggestion have continued to come in front of the board and did not stop until the vote.

Prior to the vote, Aron Maberry proposed the addition of Freedom Point Elementary to the list of nominations, saying

"The committee worked hard and came up with the word "Freedom" (for a school)," said District 6 representative Charlie Patterson at the April meeting. "We do have a Liberty Elementary, and Freedom would go well with that."

There were 12 names listed on the first ballot for CMCSS board members to vote on. After everyone chose three, the list dwindled to the top three: Freedom Elementary, Lettie Kendall Elementary, Valor Elementary and Freedom Point Elementary.

After two rounds of votes, Freedom Elementary School and Freedom Point Elementary were the top two left.

"The name of the new elementary school will be Freedom Elementary," said Kent Griffy once the votes were tallied.

CMCSS' 26th elementary school, now named Freedom Elementary, is expected to open in August 2026.
