CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — More than 200 runners braved the weather on Star Wars Day to race for a cause at the VA Park Trail.

Race organizers said that they use the 5K as a fundraising event to help provide for the sports seasons for area youth, allowing them to give scholarships to kids that need them. They also stated that they put a lot of hard work into organizing the race, making sure it was fun for everyone. Some even chose to run in costume to celebrate May 4.

Awards were given to the top three overall male and female contestants, along with age group trophies for first place and medals for second and third place for both male and female winners. Following the finish of the 5K there was a short kids sprint for children under eight years old, who received a One King patch for their participation.

Co-founder and Board Member of One King Sports Ricky Hitt expressed his pride in the event.

“The race for us is a fundraiser for our ministry,” Hitt said. “So, it can be very hectic in our lives, but I want to give kudos to our board members, our president and all our volunteers.”

The mission of One King Sports is to instill biblical values, leadership skills and teamwork principles that impact participants throughout their lives.

“We use those vehicles of sports to share the gospel of Christ with participants and their parents,” Hitt said.
