Man sentenced for fentanyl pills shaped like children’s vitamins found in Clarksburg

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — An Ohio man who traveled to Clarksburg to sell drugs has been sentenced on multiple charges.

Tyler Sands, 23 of Akron, Ohio, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He was charged in September 2023 after Clarksburg Police and other law enforcement agencies searched a home on Buckhannon Avenue and found pounds of fentanyl, including colored pills in the shape of children’s vitamins , as well as a semi-automatic pistol.

Sands was one of two suspects from Akron who were arrested at a hotel in Bridgeport after the search. A criminal complaint said that at the time of the arrest, Sands admitted that the firearm was his and that he had been distributing fentanyl in the home.

Following his 12-year sentence, Sands will serve three years of supervised release.
