SOLVE, in partnership with Oregon Heritage, has announced the revival of the Historic Cemetery Cleanup Days after a hiatus since 2018. The list of cemeteries scheduled for cleanup includes one in Clackamas.

The cleanup events are scheduled on various weekends throughout May, leading up to Memorial Day on Monday, May 27. A full list of events can be found here .

The Clackamas event is set for 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at Clackamas Cemetery, 13600 S.E. Ambler Road, east of Milwaukie. For more information or to register, click here .

The goal, according to a release from SOLVE, is to ensure Oregon’s historic cemeteries are respectfully maintained for visitors paying homage to their loved ones.

SOLVE is a statewide non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to improve the environment and to build a legacy of stewardship. Oregon Heritage is part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Office and includes the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries.

Volunteers are invited to join in the removal of invasive plants, cleaning of headstones and assisting with general grounds maintenance.

“Oregon’s historic cemeteries serve as poignant reminders of our collective past and are repositories of immense cultural value,” according to the release. “Heritage enthusiasts, friends and neighbors from all walks of life are invited to join us in preserving these sacred sites during the Historic Cemetery Cleanup Days throughout May.”
