Rollingstone veteran accepts Quilt of Valor
William “Bill” Schell, of Rollingstone, was presented a Quilt of Valor at the Winona American Legion. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and went to Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago for boot camp. He was on Brother Duty, with his brother Ed, on the USS Bayfield stationed in Long Beach, Calif., and had a tour to Vietnam for two years and 13 months as a welder. He was sent to welder school and then worked with the Navy Seal team for six months back in Vietnam on night boat duty in the open waters, which was a pretty dangerous job. In October 1969, Bill was discharged from active duty in the U.S. Navy.

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) - A La Crosse man was sentenced yesterday for trafficking cocoaine and fentanyl in 2023. 47-year-old Louis Ray was sentenced on July 25 to nine years in federal prison for distributing 40 grams or more of fentanyl, a news release from United States Attorney Timothy O’Shea of the Western District of Wisconsin said.
