Bengals QB Joe Burrow is making a notable change to stay healthy in 2024

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow recently told Geoff Hobson of the team's website he has adopted a new diet to bulk up this offseason.

"We're bigger. Definitely bigger. We'll see where I'm at at the end of the offseason. I feel good about where my body is right now," Burrow said. "I'm going to continue to get stronger and bigger throughout the offseason and just play it by ear, depending on how I feel. Like I said, I'm in a good spot right now. I'm really strong, bigger than I was. We're going to continue to eat right, lift and go through my routine and see where I'm at."

Last season, Burrow played at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, so he could stand to put on some muscle after suffering a season-ending right wrist injury in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens. He also tore his ACL in his rookie season in 2020.

Durability issues can derail a QB's career. In 2019, former Indianapolis Colts signal-caller Andrew Luck retired at 29 after suffering multiple injuries — including a lacerated kidney — in seven seasons.

Burrow is still unsure whether the new diet will help him stay healthy, but he indicated it's worth a try.

"You're always growing and learning and I'm trying something new this year," Burrow said. "So, we'll see how I feel when the season rolls around, when camp rolls around, when we're on the field every day. But I don't know the answer to that. We're going to find out."

If Burrow starts in all 17 games this upcoming season, the Bengals should be in the thick of the Super Bowl hunt. Through four seasons, the former Pro Bowler has completed 68 percent of his passes for 14,083 yards, 97 touchdowns 37 interceptions and an outstanding 98.6 passer rating.

He could also win Comeback Player of the Year for a second time. As of Monday, DraftKings gives him the second-best odds (+200) to win the award behind New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers.
