Another mall staple is shuttering its doors.

    This time it's teen-and-young-adult clothing brand rue21.

The fast-fashion retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for a third time on Thursday and is seeking to close its 541 stores , including four in Greater Cincinnati, Reuters reported .

Rue21 is "deeply rooted in offering the latest trends with an affordable price tag," according to their website . The company's merchandise targets both girls and guys ages 11 to 17 who "aspire to be 21" and adults who "want to look and feel 21," according to the Pennsylvania-based company's Forbes profile.

The store closures will affect three malls in Cincinnati and one in Northern Kentucky. These include Stone Creek Town Center, EastGate Mall, Western Hills Plaza and the Florence Mall.

All rue21 stores will roll out going-out-of-business sales, according to rue21's Instagram page. Everything will be discounted by 30 to 50% off the lowest ticketed price.

At its peak, rue21 operated about 1,000 stores throughout U.S. malls, Reuters reported.

But the now debt-ridden company previously filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and 2017 and struggled to survive amid an increase in online shopping sped up by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The clothing company attempted to sell its business, according to Reuters, but no buyer appeared willing to pay more than the company would earn via going-out-of-business sales and closing all its stores.
