Thursday's Weather: Warm and muggy with limited rain and storm chances today
EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) - Surprise, it is extra muggy and warm again this Thursday as we wake up in the upper 60s and lower 70s this AM. Some patchy fog will be possible for your morning commute, so be mindful of the potential lower visibilities today. Expect skies to remain mostly dry for the morning and early afternoon hours minus a stray shower or thundershower as temperatures climb back into the middle 80s for highs. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will have an easier time developing later this evening, and a few of these storms could be on the stronger side so you’ll want to be weather alert after 5 PM. The SPC does have our northwestern counties under a Slight (Level 2/5) Risk for large hail and strong/damaging winds. The tornado threat at this time is very low. We’ll remain mostly dry on Friday as a slow moving cold front crawls into ETX, leading to a big split in afternoon highs from north to south. This cold front and a potent upper-level disturbance will lead to more widespread heavy rains and a few thunderstorms starting after midnight Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday morning before drying out Sunday afternoon. We’ll likely only warm into the 60s for most on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon thanks to breezy and cool northwest winds. Thankfully, lots of sunshine is on tap for the first half of next week which will lead to a nice and quick warm up.
