Three Rivers grad wins Star City Showdown title
Three Rivers High School graduate Ashley Lopez captured first place in the 105-pound weight class at the USA Powerlifting 2024 Star City Showdown in Lincoln, Neb., on May 11. Lopez, a sophomore on the Midland University powerlifting team, had lifts of 303 pounds in the squat, 143 in the bench press, and 303 in the deadlift for a composite of 749 pounds.

Zoom to the finish line
The all-girl Poteet High School racing team zoomed into third place at the 2024 Alamo City Electrathon (ACE) Race held on April 19. With the vision to generate excitement and awareness of vocational opportunities associated with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), the competition took place at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall in San Antonio. New interim Jourdanton Police Chief named
Former Shavano Park police chief Ray Lacy has taken over as Jourdanton interim police chief announced at the Jourdanton City Council meeting held on Monday. Lacy was recommended to fulfill the role which has been held by Lt. Maricarmen Kaufman, who will be leaving Jourdanton PD after accepting a position at the McMullen County Sheriff’s Office.

Lady Squaws sweep Lady Bulldogs in second round
The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldogs played Jourdanton in the area-round series, falling in two games to conclude the season. Olivia Fojt hit a home run, scored two runs, and had an RBI while Madilynn Steinmann got two hits, double and RBI. Destiny Rios went 2-for-2 as Yoakum came up short 13-2 in the opener May 2 in Jourdanton.
