    Minnesota Discovery Center presents Red Dirt Concert Series

    CHISHOLM—Minnesota Discovery Center recently announced the talent lined up for the Red Dirt Concert Series taking to the stage of the MDC outdoor amphitheater in the coming months.

    “This series promises to bring a diverse mix of sounds and stories to the heart of the Iron Range, showcasing a blend of classic rock, pop, country, and cultural melodies that will resonate with audiences of all ages,” Char Conger, MDC Executive Director wrote in a news release this past Friday.

    “Our amphitheater provides the perfect backdrop for these incredible artists, and we can’t wait to share this experience with our community,” Conger wrote. “The Red Dirt Concert Series is more than just concerts; it’s a celebration of music, culture, and the great outdoors. We’re proud to offer a venue for these talented performers and to bring people together for unforgettable evenings under the stars.”

    Friday, June 14—Great White, Grammy nominated, legendary rock band

    Doors open at 5 p.m.

    The show opens at 6:30 with Mallrats, a 90s rock sing-along band.

    Great White rocks the amphitheater at 8 p.m. with Brett Carlisle-Vocals, Mark Kendall-Guitars, Michael Lardie-Guitars, Keyboards, Audie Desbrow-Drums, and Scott Snyder-Bass.

    “We’re excited to welcome the legendary rock band Great White on June 14th, known for their electrifying performances and timeless hits,” Conger wrote.

    Great White has an arsenal of songs, including the Grammy nominated Best Hard Rock Performance hit, “Once Bitten, Twice Shy,” as noted on a bio found on the MDC website. “The group has sold more than 10 million albums world wide, has six Top 100 Billboard hits, nine Top 100 Billboard albums, two platinum albums, and clock the top of MTV four times, according to a bio found on the MDC website.

    “To experience their hits live in concert—“Rock Me,” “Mista Bone,” “Save Your Love,” “House of Broken Love,” and “Lady Red Light”—is to ride an emotional wave of sultry connections, arousing lyrics, and an all-out marathon of hard-hitting orchestrations,” it states in the bio. “Audiences might also hear tracks like, “Stick It,” “The Angel Song,” “Big Time,” or one of the many deep cuts from Great White’s 13 studio albums.

    Thursday, July 25 -Arrival from Sweden “The Music of ABBA”

    Special Guest Disco Kingz takes to the stage at 6:30 p.m.

    At 8 p.m. ARRIVAL from Sweden takes to the stage with the “The Music of ABBA”

    ARRIVAL from Sweden was founded by Vicky Zetterberg in 1995 in Gothenburg, Sweden and very soon became one of the world’s most popular and most selling ABBA show bands, according to a bio on the MDC website.

    “Since the start in 1995 the band has toured in over 70 countries, done 82 successful USA tours and has appeared in several TV and radio shows all over the world, selling out arenas seat up to 50,000 people, according to its bio.

    ARRIVAL from Sweden in the production “The Music of ABBA” performs hits like: “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Does Your Mother Know,” “Take A Chance,” “SOS,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Super Trouper,” and more.

    “Arrival from Sweden will grace our stage on July 25th, offering an unforgettable tribute to ABBA that’s guaranteed to have everyone dancing,” Conger wrote.

    Friday, Aug. 9—The Tamburitzans World Music & Dance

    The Tamburitzans are a fan favorite at MDC. Their mission is: “to preserve and celebrate international cultural heritages through artistic performance, while awarding talented performers with scholarships to Pittsburgh-based universities for their contributions and dedication to the Arts,” according to their bio.

    “The Tamburitzans ensemble expanded its repertoire throughout the past eight decades to include a wide variety of folk dance and music representing international cultures,” it states. “Eighty plus years, several international tours, hundreds of performers, and hundreds of thousands of audience members later, the Tamburitzans’ show is an annual tradition for some, and a delightful new surprise for others. Year after year, generation after generation, the Tamburitzans dazzle audiences across the country with elaborate costumes and incredibly versatile musicians, singers, and dances. The talented young performers are full-time students who have chosen to continue the Tamburitzans’ legacy by bringing international cultures to the modern stage.”

    “The Tamburitzans will present a vibrant display of Eastern European culture through music, song, and dance, providing a truly unique experience on August 9,” Conger said.

    Friday, Aug. 23—Jo Dee Messina Heads CAROLINA Tails CALIFORNIA Tour 2024

    Doors open at 5 p.m.

    Country music duo The Dryes from Season 22 of NBC’s The Voice open the show at 6:30 p.m

    Jo Dee Messina, award winning country music vocalist takes to the stage at 8 p.m. Messina is a CMA Horizon Award Winner, ACM Top New Female Vocalist winner, and two-time Grammy nominee.

    “Jo Dee Messina will bring her chart-topping hits to our amphitheater on August 23rd, captivating fans with her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics,” Conger wrote.

    “Jo Dee Messina kicked off her notable career with “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” a single that immediately made her a household name,” it states on her bio. “Following the success of her debut, Jo Dee posted nine No. 1 hits and sixteen Top 40 songs and was honored by the ACM Awards, CMA Awards, and GRAMMY Awards. As Jo Dee’s résumé grew, she proved to be a trendsetter and history-maker, becoming the first female in country music history to celebrate three consecutive multi-week, chart-topping songs.”

    Friday, Sept. 6—Marshall Charloff’s band, Purple Xperience

    “Marshall Charloff’s band, Purple Xperience will bring the greatest and most authentic production of Prince and The Revolution to audiences of all generations on September 6,” Conger wrote.

    Doors open at 5 p.m.

    The Northwood’s Band cover band, a group founded by Two Harbors alumni in 2014, opens the show at 6:30 p.m., featuring music from the 1950s to today.

    Marshall Charloff’s band, Purple Xperience takes to the stage at 8 p.m.

    “The group was co-founded by Marshall and Matt “Doctor” Fink (keyboardist from Prince & The Revolution) in 2011, an era where Prince closely monitored the use of his art,” it states in the group’s bio. “Their vision was to deliver Prince’s music on the highest level, played live and untracked by skilled musicians, while paying respectful visual homage through costume and likeness.”

    “Immediately met with success and adoration from discerning Prince devotees, the band has now been touring for over a decade, nationwide and internationally, and has performed for over 1 million fans.
