Tip-Off to the Rip-Off: Don't get wrapped up in scams

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Have you received an offer to wrap your car, boat, bike, or truck with logos of a major brand? Watch out! These offers are often scams aimed at stealing your money and banking information.

Here’s how it works: Scammers send you a phony check for thousands of dollars, claiming you’ve been selected by a major company to wrap your vehicle. You’re instructed to cash the check, keep a portion, and send the rest to a company to do the wrap.

But here’s the catch – while your bank might clear the check in a couple of days, it can take weeks to detect it’s fake. By then, your money and personal information have been stolen.

The BBB advises: Never cash checks from unsolicited offers. Don’t communicate by email or phone until you’ve verified the company through their official website. Stay cautious and avoid easy money offers.
