Angel Reese's Candid Thoughts on Chicago Sky Coach Teresa Weatherspoon

Before joining the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese hadn't had a Black head coach since high school.

And she may not have ever had a female Black head coach in her life, aside from Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon.

Reese spoke with reporters as part of the Sky's media day on Wednesday.

At one point in her press conference, Reese was asked whether she has any stories about Weatherspoon helping her feel like family with the sky.

“My first conversation with her, during the draft process, I knew I wanted to come to Chicago,” Reese responded. “Immediately. Like, I felt understood, I felt loved.”

“We had a conversation on the phone where it felt like she was a mom,” Reese continued. “I knew I will always be good with her. She will always be there for me through everything.

“Just being able to have somebody that understands me as a Black woman, that looks like me. Who knows what I’ve been through, and understands me from that perspective.”

It's clear that Reese is already feeling a unique bond with her head coach.

While Reese had a great relationship with Kim Mulkey, her and Weatherspoon are also fostering something special.
