Padres take series from Cubs in Chicago

The Padres earned a critical win on Wednesday, defeating the Cubs 3-0 to not only win the series, but win the season series and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Cubs, which could potentially come into play at the end of the season relating to the wild card standings. Dylan Cease was outstanding, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out 12 over seven scoreless frames. Manny Machado put the Padres on top in the 1st inning with an RBI-single. Fernando Tatis Jr. added to the lead with an RBI-single in the 5th, followed by an RBI-double from Jake Cronenworth. The bullpen was also fantastic, as Wandy Peralta and Robert Suarez combined for two perfect innings and three strikeouts, with Suarez earning his 12th save of the season. The Padres will enjoy an off-day on Thursday before welcoming the Dodgers to Petco Park on Friday.
