Work week starts calm in Chicago, but storms could follow 02:48

CHICAGO (CBS) — Calm, lovely weather is in store for the Chicago area for the next 36 hours, but a couple of rounds of strong to severe storms could come through the area Tuesday.

Pleasant spring weather will continue overnight Sunday into Monday with a mix of sun and clouds, and a stray sprinkle is possible as a storm breezes by to the south of the area. Temperatures will be fairly typical for May, with lows in the 40s and high temperatures in the 60s to near 70 degrees.

The First Alert Weather team is tracking a storm headed toward the area on Tuesday. It is expected to produce rounds of on-and-off rain, along with the risk of severe thunderstorms. As it appears, morning commuters on Tuesday should plan on wet weather from a first round of storms. Sunshine then emerges through much of the day, fueling a second round of late-day thunderstorms. These are more concerning, potentially packing hail and wind damage.

Additional scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday, then cooler weather blows in late-week.
