(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The mother of a man who died more than 2 months ago in a police chase across state lines, has a new lawyer and filed a lawsuit seeking answers.

Larry Perry, 34, died on Feb. 21 when both the U-Haul he was driving and a Hammond, Indiana Police vehicle went through a guardrail and into the Little Calumet River near 130th Street. He was a father of four.

“I got a lot of unanswered questions. I got a lot of them,” said Angela Perry, Larry’s mother, at a press conference outside of City Hall on Friday afternoon.

Supporting family members and attorney Cierra Norris joined Angela at City Hall. They are demanding answers through a lawsuit after receiving none from the Hammond or Chicago Police Departments.

Even the death certificate has been withheld, Norris said, leading them to now speculate.

“They say it's still up on the investigation,” Angela said. “Why is everything still up on the investigation? So many unanswered questions? I don't know whether he drowned or not. I don't know what happened to him.”

They want to see a full police report, along with access to police body and dashcam video footage.

“It’s been two months. If they’re not willing to turn over the cause of death, it’s probably because there is something to it,” Norris said.

“If they're not willing to turn over those dashcam videos, it’s probably because they ran him into that river.”

Chicago Police have referred our requests for information to the Hammond Police Department, Hammond PD has not yet responded.
