From rivals to classmates: On eve of Saginaw schools merger, teens navigate transitions
SAGINAW, MI — Cross-town rivalries will transition to classroom bonds for hundreds of teenagers set to serve as the first students at Saginaw United High School. Many freshmen, sophomores and juniors now enrolled at Arthur Hill High School and Saginaw High School — two cross-town community institutions marked for new purposes next academic year — will study together beneath the same roof starting this fall.

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Good morning and happy Monday! We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Here at 5 stories you need to know to jumpstart your work week. 1. It was a party at the Dow Event Center last night as the Saginaw Spirit got revenge against the London Knights winning the memorial cup. It’s been a wild week and a half for the host team as they made history on the ice. Saginaw opened the tournament against Moose Jaw jumping out to a 4-goal lead. The spirit gave up three quick goals in the second. But they hung on to win 5-4. In game two they played Drummondville. Coming back from a two-goal deficit and a one-goal deficit, scoring late in the third to beat the voltigeurs 4-to-3. Next, they faced London to clinch a spot in the finals, but the visiting OHL champs beat them 4-2. That forced Saginaw to play in the semi-final against Moose Jaw. Where they dominated the warriors, cruising to a 7-1 victory. Last night Saginaw took the early 3-goal lead but the Knights came back to tie it in the third period. Until Josh Bloom scored with just over 20 seconds left to clinch the cup. You can celebrate the big win with the Spirit today at noon. A parade will start at the commerce tower at Washington Avenue and end at the Jolt Event Park across from the Dow Event Center.

FLINT – For the first time in five years, Byron’s trophy case is making room for a some new district softball championship hardware. The Eagles won the Division 4 district championship at Potterville by beating Morrice 18-0 in four innings in the title game.
