Mid-Michigan (WNEM) - After three La Niña winters in a row, we are now headed toward an El Niño winter!. What is El Niño? It is a naturally occurring climate pattern associated with the warming of ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. El Niño officially occurs when sea surface temperatures are 0.5°C above normal over five consecutive periods of time, measured in three-month increments. It can significantly influence weather patterns, ocean conditions, and marine fisheries worldwide. El Niño occurs on average every two to seven years, and episodes typically last nine to 12 months, showing its largest impact during the winter.
Weekly Safety Report: Car Fire Rescue and House Fire in Midland County, Michigan
This week in Midland County, Michigan, two incidents occurred that required emergency response. In the first incident, a Midland officer rescued four elderly individuals trapped inside a burning car on the off-ramp from Westbound US-10 to Bay City Road. With the help of a bystander, the officer successfully evacuated everyone before the arrival of the Midland Fire Department. The second incident involved a fire that damaged a home in Jerome Township. Firefighters responded to the scene after a resident discovered smoke coming from the building. Two firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries, and the fire was contained to one room of the house.
