Grand Strand drivers feel pinch as gas prices climb
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Gas prices in the Grand Strand are rising, with AAA reporting a 13-cent jump in average prices over just two days. The national average for regular gas is $4.28 a gallon. In South Carolina, the average is $3.90 a gallon, which is 38 cents below the national average. AAA says some of the cheapest gas in the state is in the Pee Dee region, including Marion County.

Roundabout Should Open on Time
Work is continuing on the roundabout at Lee, Franklin and Madison streets in Whiteville, and the project should be finished in October. The N.C. Dept. of Transportation said on X that the concrete truck apron, interior curb and gutter have all been poured, along with most of the sidewalk. Traffic is still detoured, with motorists heading into downtown directed to Franklin, and ouy of the downtown area onto Lee. Madison remains closed to through traffic at the project.

Stormwater improvements to take place in Florence are expected to reduce street flooding
FLORENCE — Two roadways are expected to have temporary lane closures and require detours as stormwater improvements take place. The city received grant funding from the South Carolina Office of Resilience for the North Church Street and Oakland Avenue stormwater enhancement project. With the 2026-27 school year officially underway, the South Carolina Highway Patrol issued a reminder. Drivers are reminded to follow state laws regarding school buses. On two-lane roads, traffic traveling in both directions are required to come to a complete stop when a school bus activates its red lights and the stop arm is out. On multi-lane or divided roadways, vehicles traveling behind the school bus must stop, while opposing traffic on a separate divided multi-lane road may proceed with caution.
