Michigan National Guard and DNR team up to make improvements at Wilderness State Park
EMMET COUNTY — The Michigan Army National Guard and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources are teaming up to make improvements in Emmet County. A series of projects at Wilderness State Park started on Friday. The team will be building an all-accessible playground, fixing parking lots and making some repairs to roofs and cabins. In the last four years, the partnership has saved taxpayers more than $1.8 million while facilitating training opportunities for National Guard members. More than 100 Guard members will be pitching in. “We’re real happy to continue this partnership...It seems to be beneficial for both entities and, in the long run, for the general public who gets to have enhanced and improved facilities,” said John Pepin, DNR deputy public information officer.
Mackinac Island welcomes maiden voyage of Secretary of State mobile office
MACKINAC ISLAND, MI – It can take a full day for Mackinac Island residents and seasonal workers to visit a Michigan Secretary of State office, but not this week. For the first time, the SOS served the island with a mobile office, issuing and renewing driver’s licenses and state IDs, renewing vehicle plates, and updating addresses for 120 people who otherwise would have had to take a ferry to either St. Ignace or Cheboygan.

Cheboygan Police warn high school students of dangers of TikTok ‘Assassin Game’
CHEBOYGAN -- Police are warning about a dangerous game some high school students in the area are playing on social media. The game, known as ‘Senior Assassin’ or ‘Junior Assassin’ has groups of students tagging each other with things like squirt guns, paintball guns, Nerf guns, and airsoft guns on TikTok. Cheboygan Police Chief Scott Rifenberg said that trend has been sweeping the nation and has made its way to Northern Michigan. They said between 40 and 50 Cheboygan students have been participating in the game. Rifenberg said law enforcement, or others, may not be aware it’s a game and confuse it for an active shooter situation. Rifenberg said that could cause things to quickly spiral out of control.
