PORTLAND, Maine — You may have heard that Lori Voornas, co-host of the WHOM morning radio show in Portland, appeared on a Fox primetime show called “I Can See Your Voice" last week. This does not come as much of a surprise because a) Lori is a ham and b) she is up for anything.
Seeking the northern lights was a family affair for this AP photographer
BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) — Robert Bukaty has covered nearly every type of story and event for The Associated Press in his 30-year career, from the somber to the exhilarating: a mass shooting, COVID-19, presidents, political campaigns, ski racing — a lot of ski racing — Olympics, and everyday life in Maine as staff photographer in Portland. With a little nudge from his daughter and a solar storm, he has now even shot the northern lights. Here’s what he said about capturing this extraordinary image.

“SOUTH PACIFIC is a masterpiece, and the role of Emile de Becque is an important one. He is a man who hates war, has found his slice of peace, and is willing to fight for love. It is such a joy to play the part and be able to fall in love eight times a week.”

Family-owned since 1966, Harbor Fish Market in Portland, Maine, is a local seafood market that’s prized for its ultra-fresh fish and commitment to quality. When you step onto Custom House Wharf in Portland, Maine, you step back in time and experience the city’s waterfront as it used to be. Weathered buildings line the narrow street. An oyster house and a tavern are lures for the hungry and parched. And yet, the wharf’s crown jewel is Harbor Fish Market, the state’s premier retail store for the finest, freshest seafood to be found virtually anywhere in New England.
This Emerald Oasis in Falmouth Was Once a Wide-Open Lawn
Nearly 30 years ago, Eric Greven and Susan Greven Vayda fell for a house bordering a Falmouth golf course. Though they aren’t golfers, they were smitten with the grey-shingled place outfitted with large windows and a roomy deck overlooking a grassy 1.7-acre plot. “It was a blank slate just waiting for us,” says Vayda, a retired school psychologist.
Maine Maritime Museum Has All the Bells and Whistles
Photos courtesy of Maine Maritime Museum and Dianne Ballon. For the last 30 years, Dianne Ballon has had a recurring dream about searching for musical instruments in a secondhand shop. Last year, when she was invited into the basement at Bath’s Maine Maritime Museum to peruse its collection of antique and vintage bells, whistles, horns, and other navigational instruments, she was amazed. “It was exactly like the dreams,” Ballon says. “That night, I thought about all the objects talking to each other like, ‘Who is she going to pick?’”
