CHATTAROY, Wash. -- The two people killed in a house fire in Chattaroy last week have been identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner.

According to the medical examiner, 84-year-old William Johnson and 83-year-old Nyla Johnson died in the house fire on North River Estates Drive April 27. The medical examiner says Nyla Johnson's cause of death was cutaneous thermal injuries. William Johnson's cause of death has not yet been determined.

Spokane County firefighters responded to the home around 3 a.m. and found it fully engulfed.

William Johnson was found dead inside the back of the home. Nyla Johnson was able to get out the front door but had to be life-flighted to an area hospital where she later died.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an accidental electrical malfunction.
