Houghton County man arraigned on meth charges
HOUGHTON, MI— A Hancock man arrested on larceny and drug charges has been arraigned in Houghton County District Court. Michael Stuber, 55, is accused of stealing a number of items from Houghton and Portage Township businesses. When police searched his apartment on Tuesday, they found stolen merchandise, a large amount of meth, and evidence of drug distribution.

Community members turn out for annual Hancock ‘Pitch in for Parks’ cleanup
HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - Dozens of community members pitched in for the city of Hancock’s annual ‘Pitch in for Parks’ park cleanup event Thursday evening. Community members visited several Hancock parks for cleanups, such as Porvoo Park along the Portage Canal. They picked up trash, raked and bagged leaves, and overall tidied up the parks for the summer.
Houghton researchers see slight increase in Isle Royale’s wolf population
HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC)—According to Michigan Technological University’s annual wolf count, the wolf population on Isle Royale is slightly increasing. The winter wolf-moose study, which began in 1958 and is the world’s longest predator-prey study, was delayed due to weather. MTU scientists and students spent seven weeks on Isle Royale surveying wolf tracks and sightings.
