SALISBURY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Georgia man was arrested last week after being charged with posing as a fraud investigator and reportedly visiting several bank branches to cash out along the Interstate 85 corridor.

According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, a victim reported receiving a text notification requesting to confirm whether a charge on their debit card was legitimate. After replying “no,” the victim said they were told they would be contacted by a fraud investigator to follow up.

Investigators say the victim then received a call from a male believed to be 44-year-old Logan Edward Shanahan of Tucker, Georgia, and obtained their banking information during the conversation.

Shanahan reportedly added the victim’s debit card information to his cellphone and went to Wells Fargo branches in Charlotte, Lexington, Archdale, High Point and Greensboro, where he obtained cashier’s checks totaling more than $20,000.

Rowan County investigators obtained 13 felony warrants on Shanahan for identify theft, financial card theft, forgery, financial card fraud, and obtaining property by false pretenses. He was located on May 7 by officers with the Gwinnett County (Ga.) Police Department, where he was taken into custody.

Plans are being made to extradite him to North Carolina.
