CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Despite a cooler start we’ll have a warmer finish to this Thursday as high pressure continues to drive the forecast. Lows have dipped into the 50s this morning and even 40s in some of our mountain towns. The cool start will hold on to light winds as Sunny skies dominate to start the day.

Look for highs to make a run for the upper 80s landing near 90s degrees during the peak heating hours of the day. This will be just a couple of degrees off our record high of 91 degrees set back in 1959.

We’ll dip into the low 60s overnight before Friday ushers in the mid-80s for the end of the work week. Clouds will build ahead of an approaching cold front before showers and storms move in late in the day. This will kick off an unsettled pattern that lingers through the weekend into the mid portions of next week.

Saturday will see spotty showers over uptown throughout the morning with heavier rain focused north of the Queen City toward the I-40 corridor. Storms will develop again throughout the afternoon and evening. Saturday will only hit the upper 70s before getting back into the 80s on Sunday.

Overnight lows will be in the mid-60s through the weekend with cloudy skies locked in.

Early next week will warm back up into the mid to upper 80s while summer-like pop-up storms settle in through mid-week next week.

Today: Mostly Sunny & Very Warm. High: 89.

Tonight: Partly Cloudy & Comfortable. Low: 63.
