Firefighters extinguished the fire, and two occupants were found inside of the vehicle. Medic pronounced both of them dead on scene.

CMPD said the investigation indicates the Chevrolet was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Old Concord Road when the driver lost control. The vehicle then veered off the right side of the road, struck a tree and caught on fire.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in this crash.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. Toxicology results are pending.

The identities of the driver and passenger are pending until next of kin have been notified.
