RALEIGH, NC (LOOTPRESS) – North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Terrance Antoine Hunter, 40, of 13505 Bryton Gap Blvd., Huntersville, and Tracie Michelle Famber, 59, of 1220 Echo Glen Road, Charlotte. They were both charged with one count of embezzlement, a felony.

Special agents from the North Carolina Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division accuse Hunter and Famber, a contractor and adjuster, of embezzling homeowners’ premium payments in the amount of $20,662.95 from one client.

According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on Feb. 23, 2023. Both Hunter and Famber turned themselves in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on April 4 and were released on bond. Hunter received a $20,000 unsecured bond and Famber received a $25,000 unsecured bond. They were both ordered to appear in Forsyth County court on May 3.

Famber and Hunter, a mother and son, were previously charged with embezzlement in Mecklenburg County. They have also been charged with the same crime in Richmond County.

“I’m proud of our Criminal Investigations team for being on the case,” Commissioner Causey said. “Insurance fraud must be rooted out and prosecuted to hold down our ever-increasing insurance rates in America. Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m determined to protect consumers and aggressively pursue the scam artists and crooked operators in North Carolina and beyond.”
