A North Carolina defense attorney found herself on the wrong side of the law when she allegedly assaulted a woman and then faked a seizure.

Cops from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an assault call shortly before noon Monday to the law office of 53-year-old Mary Leazer Rogers. When they arrived, police found a woman with a bloodied and scratched-up face.

According to Rogers’ arrest affidavit, the victim said Rogers accused her of having a personal relationship with a client who had been at the office earlier in the day. The victim told officers that Rogers wants to “have a sexual relationship” with her, but she has rebuffed Rogers’ attempts, the affidavit said. Rogers began “arguing with the victim and cursing at the victim,” and that’s when the assault allegedly occurred.

The victim alleged the suspect punched her five times in the face.

Officers then placed Rogers under arrest. As the officer walked Rogers to the patrol car, she reportedly kicked him in the leg. She then spit in the face of another officer, the affidavit said. She also lay down in the patrol car and refused to sit up. When officers tried to sit her up, she allegedly forced her way out of the patrol car and onto the ground.

“The suspect was screaming and cursing during this time and caused a scene as many people came out of their office places to see what was going on,” officers wrote.

Officers believed that she was having a seizure, so they took her to the hospital. But when she got there, she allegedly told hospital staff that she was faking it. She also spit on a medic, officers claimed.

Cops took her to the Mecklenburg County Jail on charges of simple assault, assault on a government official or employee and two counts of malicious conduct by a prisoner. She has since posted bond. Rogers and her lawyer could not be reached for comment. She has a court date scheduled for May 7.

According to her website , the Charlotte native attended Davidson College and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She was admitted into the North Carolina Bar in 1995. Before becoming a defense attorney, she worked at the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.

ABC affiliate WSOC reports among Rogers’ current clients is murder suspect Michael Withers, who is accused of shooting former High Point University basketball player Haiishen McIntyre in 2021
