    Kanawha City man convicted on Fentanyl, Firearms charges

    CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Kanawha County man has been convicted of Felony crimes including “Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Deliver Fentanyl, and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Concealed Firearm.

    According to the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Maurice Crockett – 35 years old of Kanawha City – has been charged in relation to two distinct incidents involving the Charleston Police Department.

    These encountered occurred on May 18, 2022, and January 18, 2023, respectively, and involved the seizing of 12 grams of Fentanyl – a Schedule II Narcotic – cutting agents, hundreds of distribution bags, and four firearms along with related ammunition.

    Following a four-day trial before Judge Maryclaire Akers and a one-hour and fifteen-minute deliberation period from the jury, Crockett was determined to have been guilty on all charges.

    The defendant’s bond was revoked by Judge Akers and Crockett was remanded to South Central Regional Jail pending a May 23, 2024, sentencing.

    The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors, George Sitler and Madison Tuck.

    “While I wholeheartedly support our Second Amendment right to bear arms, our office is committed to prosecuting convicted felons carrying weapons and dealing deadly drugs on our streets,” said Senior Assistant Prosecutor, Debra Rusnak with regard to the case.
