Getting in the Game: Pickleball
Since the pandemic, a new sport has taken off in popularity—one that seems to interest all generations: pickleball. Lee Chinnis, support pastor at Charleston Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, took up the game a year ago and has since used it as an opportunity to create stronger community within his church and community.
Mount Pleasant Recreation Youth & Junior Triathlon
The inaugural Mount Pleasant Recreation Department Youth & Junior Triathlon presented by Palmetto Tribe is an excellent opportunity for youth and junior athletes of all abilities to experience multisport on a safe, well-monitored course. There will be three age group categories with awards given to the top three male and female athletes in each category.
Battery Host Detroit on Wednesday at Patriots Point
The Charleston Battery are set to host Detroit City FC in a midweek clash on Wednesday, June 7th, in their next USL Championship contest. Kickoff at Patriots Point is 7:30 pm. Charleston and Detroit meet for the first time this season after squaring off twice in Detroit’s inaugural Championship campaign last year. The Michigan club got the better of both matches and the Black and Yellow will look to avenge those results on Wednesday.
RiverDogs Leave Tying Run at Second in Series-Opening Loss to FredNats
Fredericksburg, VA- Trailing by one, the Charleston RiverDogs received a one-out double from Cooper Kinney in the top of the ninth, but failed to cash in, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Fredericksburg Nationals at Virginia Credit Union Stadium on Tuesday night. All four of the runs scored by the RiverDogs were unearned as the Nationals committed four errors in the contest.
10-man Battery fall 0-4 to Indy at home
The Charleston Battery were defeated 0-4 by Indy Eleven on Friday at Patriots Point. An early red card to Leland Archer forced Charleston to carry on with just 10 for nearly the entire game, a disadvantage that proved too much to overcome as the game wore on. The Battery will have a chance to bounce back quickly in their next match, on Wednesday at home against Detroit City FC.

Offensive Explosion Allows RiverDogs to Outslug Augusta 13-10
The Charleston RiverDogs collected season-highs for runs scored in a game, runs scored in an inning and stolen bases on the way to a 13-10 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Sunday evening at Joseph. P. Riley, Jr. Park. The RiverDogs scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to blow open a tie game and earn a split of the six-game series. A crowd of 6,417, the largest of the season, took in the victory.
Kinney Named Carolina League Player of the Week
Charleston RiverDogs infielder Cooper Kinney has been named Carolina League Player of the Week for the week of May 30-June 4, Minor League Baseball announced on Monday afternoon. Kinney came on strong at the plate as the RiverDogs closed a series against Augusta with three consecutive wins. He becomes the third RiverDogs player to receive a weekly award, joining catcher Dominic Keegan and fellow infielder Ryan Spikes.

Qualifying for the 2023 U.S. Junior Amateur got underway today at sites across the United States. This year's tournament will be contested at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, South Carolina. In 2023, Wenyi Ding, 17, became the first male golfer from the People's Republic of China to claim a USGA championship when he defeated Caleb Surratt, 3 and 2, in the 36-hole championship match at Bandon Dunes n Bandon, Ore. Ding built as much as an 8-up lead in the second 18 before holding off a late charge by Surratt, an incoming freshman at the University of Tennessee from Indian Trail, N.C.
