CHANUTE, Kan. (KOAM) - Chanute High School announces plans for the construction of an expansive Animal Science Learning Center.

The proposed Animal Science Learning Center is set to become a versatile facility with a range of activities, from classroom and laboratory setups to live animal housing, feed trials, and hands-on demonstrations.

The center plans to provide space for critical functions such as gestation/parturition experiences, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Project Space, and processing of animal products.

The facility is projected to cost upwards of $1.4 million, the center aims for completion by Spring 2025.

USD 413 has received a significant boost through a generous land donation south of the high school, valued at $400,000.

Collaborative efforts between community volunteers and the USD 413 Foundation are underway to bridge the funding gap and ensure compliance with relevant codes and ordinances.

According to USD 413, the proposed Animal Science Learning Center will create a bright future for agricultural education at Chanute High School, and hopes to aide Chanute's agriculture as it is an essential component to the economy.

Those wishing to donate can visit the USD #413 Foundation at 620-432-2500 or foundation@usd413.org .
