A man was shot by Carver County deputies during a domestic violence call in Chanhassen, authorities announced Saturday.

Deputies were called to a home on the 7800 block of Harvest Lane at 2:11 p.m., and the caller met them outside her residence. According to a news release, the adult male suspect then came out of the house armed with a knife.

The Carver County sheriff says the man ignored verbal commands to drop the knife, and continued to "quickly advance" on the deputies — at which time they opened fire.

The suspect was struck "multiple times" and soon after taken to Hennepin Healthcare; his current condition is not known.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now investigating the incident, which is standard procedure in use-of-force incidents.

If you know anyone who is affected by domestic violence, you can find more information on services available here, via the Minnesota DPS.
