CHANDLER, Texas ( KETK ) – On Saturday, voters will be heading to the polls for May’s municipal election.

Voters to decide on $116M school bond with ‘no tax increase’, Mabank ISD says

Chandler residents in Henderson County will be voting on two bond measures for the city. Proposition A would go toward city street improvements.

“That proposal is $3,030,000 and it is a much-needed project for us. The Sawmill Road extension will help alleviate the traffic congestion that’s going up and down the 31,” Cy Ditzler, Chandler Mayor, said.

Proposition B is for several renovations at the city library. The city said the building is not up to codes and standards, and that the needs of the community have outgrown the space. Nearly 3,000 patrons used computers last year.

“A bond [was] issued that is no more than 2.5 million dollars. It has been presented as a 1.27 cent tax increase,” Nancy Bertholf, City of Chandler Library And Museum director, said.

Nancy Bertholf has been working with the library since the early 90s, she agreed that it’s time for some work to be done.

“Citizens cannot be served in the current space. We have a very good collection of print and non-print materials, but we are out of space,” Bertholf said.

If passed, the money would be for a complete redesign, including a new building.

“The land for the expansion, which is included in this bond, was donated as well,” Bertholf said.

The Mayor of Chandler explained how there are other important races on the ballot.

“There are three council seats that are coming up, with eight people running for council seats,” Ditzler said.

Elections will take place at Heritage Hall, as well as other locations set up by the county.
