    Acclaimed pianist to perform at St. Paul's

    CENTREVILLE — Acclaimed pianist Stefan Scaggiari will present a concert at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Centreville on Sunday, May 19 at 4 p.m. The concert is titled Great Encores and will feature music ranging from Chopin to Sting and more. It is open to the public at no charge. A reception will follow at the church’s Donaldson Hall.

    Scaggiari is well-known to local audiences and is known nationally and internationally for his work on National Public Radio and Concord Records. He has made over thirty recordings and has performed around the world, including in Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Turkey, and Japan. In the United States he has appeared as a classical and jazz piano soloist with many orchestras, including the National Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, and the Calgary Symphony.

    He has also performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Shriver Hall Series at Johns Hopkins University and the Concord/Fujitsu Tour, which included the Carol Sloane Group, the Count Basie Allstars, the Modern Jazz Quartet, and the Mel Torme Group. He also later recorded three trio albums on the Concord label.

    A resident of Centreville, Scaggiari is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and earned a master’s degree at the Peabody Institute. He is currently the music director at St. Paul’s Church and has served earlier as music director at The Presbyterian Church of Chestertown and the Unity Church in Annapolis.
