Embodying the spirit of community support, second-grade students at F.L. Moffett set up a lemonade stand right outside the school that is a symbol of their collective effort to fight childhood cancer.

Founded when four-year-old Alex was diagnosed with cancer, Alex told her parents she wanted to set up a lemonade stand in their front yard to help find a cure. Her first stand sold $2,000 in one day. Continuing to fight cancer, Alex continued to set up a stand every year.

After Alex passed away at the age of 8 in 2005, her parents founded “Alex’s Lemonade Stand.”

At the time of her passing, her stand had raised more than $1 million toward finding a cure. Since then, it has raised over $300 million, funded over 1,500 research grants, and supported almost 30,000 families by helping cover costs so they can access the treatment their children need.

Students at F.L. Moffett in second grade help raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation every year. They hold signs and sell lemonade for 50-cents to anyone who comes. People were greeted by smiling students with waves as they pulled up for a cup of lemonade help with “Alex’s Lemonade Stand.”
