Folks are just starting to take part in the 2024 Primary Vote for local and state offices (and the 14th District Congressional Seat,) and despite a lower than expected opening day in person, a lot of absentee paper ballots have been requested.

Voters can continue to head to the polls through the rest of the week at the Goodyear Civic Center in Cedartown or the Nathan Dean Community Center in Rockmart from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and take part in the GOP primaries for local offices – some of which will be determined through this round of voting ending on the night of May 21.

Want to figure out your registration status? Click here to visit the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page to determine whether you can participate in the Primary election. Make sure to bring a photo ID (driver’s license, identity card, passport as examples of what is allowed) to be able to vote early or on Primary Day.

The first day of early voting saw a lower than expected turnout, but around 100 ballots were cast between the Cedartown and Rockmart early voting precincts. The Board of Elections reported that 64 ballots were cast at the Goodyear Civic Center and another 40 were cast at then Nathan Dean Community Center.

Tallies of paper ballots being requested were much higher. The Board of Elections reported that 170 absentee ballots were requested, and 21 were already returned and 19 accepted.

During this voting season, the all-GOP ballot for local offices includes candidates for the District 1 County Commission race, the District 3 County Commission race, District 5 and District 6 Board of Education races, and for County Coroner and County Surveyor.

NOTE: Since all local races are on the GOP ballot, choosing a Democratic ballot will not give you the opportunity to vote for local offices. Please choose the GOP ballot to be able to participate.

The Democratic ballot only contains candidates in the race for the District 14 Congressional seat.

    Where to early vote?

As stated above, the two early voting precincts available include the Goodyear Civic Center and the Nathan Dean Community Center.

The Goodyear Civic Center is located at 108 Prior St., Cedartown.

The Nathan Dean Community Center is located at 605 Goodyear Ave., Rockmart.

Both locations are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday during the three weeks of early voting.

Saturday voting for the Primary Election is on May 4 and May 11, 2024 and is exclusively being held at the Nathan Dean Community Center in Rockmart. The hours continue to be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
