Historic Hotel Perry renovation set for 2027 start in Petoskey
Three years after buying the 127-year-old Hotel Perry, owners say renovations are scheduled to begin late next year and be completed in time for the 2028 tourist season. The hotel was bought in 2023 by the Cotton Collection, a hospitality company founded in 2020 by Jon and Lauren Cotton that operates a collection of boutique hotels and restaurants, primarily in Northern Michigan. The organization also bought the the Harbour View Inn, which it renovated this year, and the Hotel Iroquois on Mackinac Island between 2020 and 2023. “We want to be a steward of these amazing historic properties,” president of hotel investment services Sam Barnwell said. “We’ll phase the (renovations) in the winter so that we’ll remain open for guests but won’t disrupt the (busy) season.” Renovations are likely to include upgrading bathrooms and furniture and adding new technology, modern hair dryers, television screens, carpeting and more, Barnwell said. The renovation will likely begin soon after the Fall color season in 2027 has passed. Dr. Norman J. Perry built Hotel Perry in 1899, just four years after Petoskey was incorporated as a city. The historic brick hotel was originally known as the Hotel Perry and later became the Perry-Davis Hotel
