Elk River police ask public to avoid scene of "ongoing investigation" involving BCA
ELK RIVER, Minn. — Local and state authorities are at the scene of an "ongoing investigation" in Elk River Thursday, police said, and they're asking the public to avoid the area.The investigation is focused on the 19000 block of Lowell Street, according to the Elk River Police Department. Police gave no details about the investigation, but said there is no threat to public safety.The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the police department, but also did not provide further details.Elk River is about 30 miles northwest of Minneapolis.This is a developing story. Plymouth fatal crash: Man was playing YouTube video, changing clock, charges say
PLYMOUTH, Minn. (FOX 9) - A Brooklyn Park man is charged with vehicular homicide for a fatal crash that happened on Highway 169 in Plymouth last summer. Pheng Yang, 41, of Brooklyn Park, is charged with one count of criminal vehicular homicide in a crash that took the life of local hairstylist and makeup artist Cristina Restrepo on July 30, 2023. She left behind a 12-year-old son after she died at the hospital.
Armed carjacking suspect crashes in Plymouth after leading officers on chase, police say
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police say an armed carjacker led officers on a chase before crashing in the north metro Wednesday afternoon.Officers responded to a carjacking at gunpoint near 26th Avenue North and Thomas Avenue North around 2 p.m., according to the Minneapolis Police Department. Less than 10 minutes later, officers spotted the stolen vehicle and began to pursue it.The suspect allegedly drove out of north Minneapolis and into Brooklyn Center. After about 10 minutes, police say they terminated that pursuit when officers lost sight of the vehicle near Highway 100 and 57th Avenue North.A short time later, police say the carjacked vehicle crashed on the 9900 block of Medicine Lake Road in Plymouth.The driver was taken to North Memorial Medical Center for evaluation and will be booked into jail once he is released.No other injuries were reported in the crash.
